Sealed with a kiss

4th Floor Refinished, originally uploaded by Jimmy Legs.

The floors are pretty much done for now! What an exhausting procedure. Considering what we were up against, I think the floors came out well. We're still a couple of Louis Cattorze chairs away from getting added to the House Tour, but we're managing.

For some idea of what we went through between this photo and the one in the preceeding post, check Sylvia's Flickr site.

Oh, and for some reason the servers at work are blocking my ability to post on the comments page, so to electricgreek: yeah the floors are sealed, that's what the whole finishing process is, right? Is there some miracle product that wasn't mentioned in our how-to guides?

Comments:

after your done sanding your supposed to use a primer or sealer . then you do a light sanding . after that poly , then you use whats called a screener to lightly sand again . then a final coat of poly

Re: Rocky. His before and after pics. He really has slimmed down. If you saw him in person, you'd be impressed! Sadly, he will not be vacationing in NYC anytime soon. House looks great!! Oh and thanks for the hosting tip - it's way less than what I was paying!!

eg: as i understand it, the staining/poly process acts a sealer in a case like this. and we did sand in between poly coats.

juli,
mr bones is mentally preparing himself to lose that last pesky 10 pounds of babyfat.

Hey never use a gloss finish on a rough surface. Use satin ...then every little gough won't show as bad.

point taken! i'm using satin on the other floors and may go back over previous work with it too, much more forgiving than full gloss.
