Yesterday Zack and I went to Williamsburg to hang up some
flyers and check out the bar where our Friday show will be.
It was kind of a wash on both counts: the bar was locked up
tight, and there are fewer good flyering spots in Billburg
than I had thought. But we did pass by Main Drag Music to
find they were closed for renovations ... and had left some
stuff out on the sidewalk, presumably to be thrown out. So
we backed up the van and took it. Now we don't know what to
do with it.
First up is an amp head: an Acoustic 270. It has an equalizer
who sliders have been all broken off, but more concerning
is the scary popping sound it made when I plugged it in. It
would be really nice if we can get this thing to work, but
there's obviously something very wrong with it.
Next is the organ. From my intensive 3-minute internet search,
I have determined it's a Lowery T-2, made during that period
when every organ was orange for some reason. This one is trickier.
I can't tell if it works cuz I don't know how to turn it on.
It doesn't have it's own power cord. What it does have, however,
is legs. You open the bottom of the case and these little
spindly metal legs pop out. I guess there must be a missing
brace of some kind cuz I wouldn't trust these wire hangers
to support the weight of the organ.
One
also noted when opening the bottom the various jacks that
make no sense to me. Okay, one jack is obviously a 1/4",
but what's with the big one with all the pins? Is this for
the pedals or something? The third jack is the only thing
that looks like it might have to do with powering the keyboard.
But it must be yet another proprietary connection so that
you have to get a Lowery amp to go with it (organ experts
out there are free to disagree and help me figure out what
to do with this).
Unlike our Rhodes piano, there is very little info out on
the web for this device, so I don't have the schematics or
anything. I suppose eventually we'll just sic Zack on the
thing and let him mess with it until it works or it ends up
as a decorative wall hanging.
