Soviet Folding Bike

Zack and Abby were kind enough to pick up this old folding bike at a neighborhood stoop sale. It's in good condition, but is obviously pretty old. But we can't figure out where it came from. The only initial identifier was its badge, which says, cryptically, "M.M.B.3" and has a logo of a swan or seagull or heron or something. The logo is obviously supposed to resemble Raleigh's heron logo, which is our first clue that the makers of this bike may not have wanted too much attention.

While fixing up the bike, I noticed that the tires said "Made in USSR." Hmmmmm ... Then I saw that one of the pedals had a Russian word on it, next to the symbol "CCCP." The other pedal is an after-market replacement. So now we know the bike is from the former Soviet Union, but we are still lacking anything further.

So I'm putting this page up here with the below pictures in the hopes that somebody will Google their way here someday and be able to tell me something about the bike.

Note the high-placed cross bar

"MMB 3" with logo eeriely similar to Raligh's logo:

Pedal Close up; translation, anyone?

Folding hinge, inferior to the Raleigh 20, but it folds much more tidily than my bike.
